Bichon Frises Breeders - Selective Breeding

Breeders of Bichon Frises use three major breeding methods: selective breeding based on phenotype, breeding based on genealogy and the consanguinity principle. According to the first method, the breeders mate two high quality Bichons to get a puppy that will resemble them. However, as phenotype isn't always a reflection of genotype this method can give unpredictable results.

The second technique deals with the genetic value of a breeding dog. The dog's genetic potential is judged by its littermates, ancestors and descendants.

Breeding related Bichons aiming at getting their features in a homozygous state is called the consanguinity principle.

Bichon Frises Breeders - Early Socialization

Socialization of a puppy must be a guided task. You probably bought your Bichon Frise puppy when it was 6-9 weeks old. Your breeder could have started socializing the puppies. It's necessary to consult the breeder and carry on with the process.

A young Bichon is aware of its surroundings at the age of three weeks. The period until the puppy is 12 weeks of age is to be used to help it adjust to as many situations as possible. Temperament problems can occur because of under-socialization.
